In the Gospel of Luke, Martha hosted a meal for Jesus and his disciples in her home. She was busy preparing the meal and trying to be a good hostess for her honored guests. In that light, the Marthas prepare the Lord’s table at the church by washing and ironing linens used in the Mass.
