Parish News and Updates

Pastor’s Updates: October 11, 2024

1. Another busy Sunday weekend this 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time!

  • a. We will have Children’s Liturgy at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Children ages 3 – 7 are invited to join in the Little Church after the Collect (Opening Prayer) of the Mass.
  • b. It’s the Faith and Blue Weekend. The San Bruno Police Department will host our Hospitality after the 11:30 a.m. Mass as they engage and interact with our community.
  • c. We will have the Brown Scapular Enrollment at the 5 p.m. Mass. By receiving the brown scapular, you will now belong to the Confraternity of the Brown Scapular and will participate in all the spiritual benefits of the Order of Mount Carmel obtained through the mercy of Jesus Christ. It is an outward sign of an interior devotion worn in complete simplicity.
A rosary procession to the St. Joseph Grotto will immediately follow from the front of the church.
  • d. Give GP a break! Well, that means I will be the choir and choirmaster at all the Masses that I will not be celebrating.

2. About last Sunday.

  • a. The Living Rosary was a beautiful expression of a community praying together! It was quite moving to see the young and the old, even the elderly who are physically challenged, praying the beads in several languages. We thank the Legion of Mary for this initiative, especially Jun Abellana and Ricky Inting.
  • b. Thank you to those who responded to the Archdiocesan Annual Campaign last weekend. Our “giving thermometer” has gone up. We received several pledges and enrollments to the 1% Club, including a $1,000 cash donation, which was secretly dropped in our mailbox. Thank you very much to our anonymous donor for silently hoping for the success of this year’s campaign!

3. The Archdiocesan Filipino Ministry will hold the 12th Annual Gala/Dinner at the Patron Hall of our St. Mary’s Cathedral this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Our priest band called “Levites” will play again in this event.

4. In observance of the Indigenous People Day, the parish office and school will be closed this Monday, October 14, 2024.

5. All the Ministry Leaders and/or their representatives are invited to a meeting this Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the church.

Pastor’s Updates: October 4, 2024

1. Today is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron of the city of San Francisco and our Archdiocese and the founder of the Franciscan Order. His real name is Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone who lived between 1181- 1226.  Because he is the patron of animals, it became customary for churches to hold a blessing of animals ceremonies on his feast day, the fourth of October, which became World Animal Day. Yesterday, our school had the Blessing of the Animals, and tomorrow, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. is the Blessing of Animals for the entire parish.

2. October is the month of the Most Holy Rosary! St. Robert’s will be busy this weekend and the following weekend praying the rosary.

  • Tomorrow, Saturday, October 5 – Rosary rally. It starts at noon at the front of the church hosted by America Needs Fatima. For more information, please contact Lucy Kaloucava.
  • Sunday, October 6 – Living Rosary. Gathering after the 9:30 Mass. Each decade represents an organization of the parish. For more information, please contact Ricky Inting at 425-823-2469.
  • Sunday, October 13 – Candlelight Procession. You have all seen what a candlelight procession looks like both at Fatima and Lourdes, for example. We will have our own smaller version right here at St. Robert’s. Come and join us next Sunday after the 5 p.m. Mass and brown scapular enrollment.  Please bring your candles and flashlights. The procession will start in front of  the church instead of in front of St Joseph grotto. For more information, please contact Edita Cruz at 408-835-2292.

3. This Sunday is the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time in our Church Liturgical Calendar. Our St. Robert’s School 5th Graders will assist us at the 9:30 AM Family mass. Their parents will be doing hospitality and serving refreshments and some goodies after the mass.

4. This Sunday happens to be October 6, a day designated by the church as the Feast of San Bruno, the patron of our city and San Bruno Church. San Bruno Church will have its Parish Festival this Sunday. The “Levites,” a musical band of priests in our Archdiocese, including me and Fr. Boie, will perform at this festival around 2:30 PM. Curious, check us out. The group is composed of Fr. Boie, our lead vocalist; Fr. Roland de la Rosa, pastor of San Bruno, on bass guitar; Fr. Ray Reyes, pastor of St. Augustine, on lead guitar, Fr. Mark Reburiano, pastor of St. Gregory, vocals; Fr. Peter Eugenio, capuchin superior at Our Lady of Angels, on drums; and me, on keyboards.

5. This weekend, October 5/6, is a Radiate Love Weekend. It is about cultivating and nurturing your love as a couple, love in the family, and each home. Couples and families, it’s time to elevate your spiritual journey right from the comfort of your own home! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to access enriching resources available on this link. https://cacatholic.org/radiatelove-october/ See the poster below!

6. The Men’s Club will meet this Monday, October 7, at the Hennessy Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Likewise, the Women’s Guild will meet this Wednesday, October 9. See the posters below for details.

7. About a dozen family members gathered at yesterday’s Grief and Consolation Ministry meeting. Seated in a circle at the newly refurbished living room of our parish convent, they shared their stories of grief and hope, supporting each other. If you are grieving, or just want to support grieving families, you can join them every first Thursday of the month. The next meeting is November 7, 2024, at 9:15 a.m., in the convent.

8. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP) distributed groceries to 25 families yesterday. The group wishes to thank you for your generosity during last weekend’s Second Collection, which amounted to $3,530.25. The Second Collection for SVdP only happens if there is a 5th Sunday of the month – so technically, five times a year. You can, of course, always support them any time of the year.9. The Fourteenth Annual Priests’ Retirement Luncheon and Reunion will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 12:00 noon in Patron’s Hall on the lower level of Saint Mary’s Cathedral. This year’s honorees are Fr. Anthony LaTorre and Fr. Paul Rossi. Support our retired priests. Please call the parish office for more details.

10. Youth Ministry  Kick-Off 2024 is this Sunday, October 6, at 2:30 PM at the Hennessy Hall. There will be a lot of food, fun games, and time to meet and interact with new people. Youth Ministry’s goal is to create a community where the teens of our parish feel empowered to be in and have an active part of our overall Parish community. Join the fun. See below for more info.

Pastor’s Updates: September 13, 2024

  1. Tomorrow, on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, Fr. Tom Hamilton’s funeral Mass will take place at Holy Name of Jesus at 1:00pn. Fr. Tom was the pastor of St. Gabriel’s parish in San Francisco prior to his death. Some of our parishioners may still remember him as a young priest serving as a parochial vicar here in our parish during the early 2000s. “Good and faithful servant, come and share your Master’s joy.”
  2. Our School Spirit Mass is this Sunday at 9:30am with the theme “Hearts on Fire.” All students and their parents will be acknowledged at the Mass. Our School Liturgical choir will be singing, and the First Graders will also sing a special welcome song. After the Mass, hospitality and refreshments will be served by the 8th grade parents.
  3. The School and Parish Festival is next week, September 20 – 22. Come, see our community at its best. Our hardworking volunteers have started working on the stage and booths to be used at the festival. Watch our school Cheerleaders and Kidstock kick off the event with their special performances on Friday, at 5:45pm. Come and enjoy the fun!
  4. To build a strong and faithful community at St. Robert, the parish is launching a Volunteer campaign entitled “SERVE with the HEART on FIRE”. We will be empowering our current volunteers, and encouraging new volunteers to sign up. God has blessed all of us with different talents in music, public speaking, public relations, technology, and more. What a better way to give back than to SERVE with Hearts on FIRE!
